Household hazardous waste must never be poured down the drain or placed in the trash. Products must be disposed of properly!

Residential Drop-Off Program

ACUA hosts Household Hazardous Waste Drop-offs throughout the year for Atlantic County residents.

Prepare For Your Visit:

  • Proof of residency is required - driver's license, tax bill, etc. 
  • Please bring your items in a throwaway or recyclable container (such as a cardboard box). Containers will not be returned. No exceptions. You will not have to exit your vehicle.             
  • Individual container sizes cannot exceed 5 gallons – no exceptions.
  • ​The maximum quantity of household hazardous waste is 20 gallons and/or 200 lbs dry weight per household per person.  
  • NO materials from commercial establishments.  See below for commercial information. 
 

Donate Reusable Bags

ACUA is accepting reusable bags during our hazardous waste drop-off events. All bags should be clean and have no tears. Bags will be delivered to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey's Egg Harbor Township location.

  • 1 lb. Propane Cylinders ONLY - Click here for disposal information on larger sizes.
  • 12-Volt Batteries (for cars and boats)
  • All Cleaning Products (glass cleaner, all purpose cleaner, bathroom cleaner, etc.)
  • Anti-Freeze
  • Auto Care Products
  • Chemistry Sets
  • Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs) *This item contain mercury. Please bring in a sealed bag, box or original container 
  • Fertilizer
  • Floor Products
  • Fluorescent bulbs  *This item contains mercury. Please bring secured by taping together or placing in a box or original container.
  • Fuels / Motor Oil (Many local auto care stores will accept motor oil for disposal. Learn more.)
  • Fungicide
  • Furniture Polish
  • Glue/Adhesive
  • Non-Rechargeable Household Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers
  • Household Hand Sanitizer
  • Insecticide
  • Lighter Fluid
  • Mercury-Containing Items like fluorescent bulbs, old thermometers, etc. *Please bring in a sealed bag, box or original container 
  • Oil-based Paint
  • Pesticides
  • Photo Chemicals
  • Pool Chemicals
  • Rechargeable Batteries - NO batteries from hover-boards or recalled batteries.  
  • Stain Remover
  • Spray paint
  • Turpentine
  • Vape, E-Cigarette Batteries - please bring in sealed bag. (Many local vape stores also accept these for recycling).
  • Varnish/Stains
  • Weed Killer

Latex Paint is not hazardous and can be dried and disposed of in your regular trash.  Click here for proper disposal information. Less latex equals lower program costs! 

Materials NOT Accepted

You may contact the manufacturer for disposal information for many of the above listed items. 

If you are unable to wait for ACUA's drop-off day, Burlington County accepts out-of-county hazardous waste for a fee by appointment only. Please contact Hazwaste@co.burlington.nj.us or 609-499-5200 or click here to learn more and set up an appointment for disposal.
