There are currently
fourteen participating communities serviced by the ACUA's
Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility. These include:
Absecon, Atlantic City, Brigantine, Egg Harbor City, Egg
Harbor Twp., Galloway Twp., Hamilton Twp., Linwood, Longport,
Margate, Northfield, Pleasantville, Somers Point, and
Ventnor.
Originally, when the facility began operations in 1978,
twelve municipalities were served. The service area was
increased in 1991 with the completion of the Egg Harbor
City force main and in 1992 with the "Coastal Alternative"
Interceptor.
The Coastal Alternative Interceptor provides for wastewater
conveyance and treatment for the Regional Growth Area
of Atlantic County. The New Jersey Pinelands Commission
has identified the Growth Area of the County as the land
area most suitable to sustain concentrated well-planned
commercial and residential development. |
