Spending a weekend in Atlantic County this summer? If you’re looking for an activity to start or end your weekend, consider a free tour of the Atlantic County Utilities Authority’s wind farm, solar project, and wastewater plant in Atlantic City!
Right here in New Jersey, the ACUA’s Wastewater Treatment Facility is the largest hybrid wind and solar powered treatment facility in the world! The wind farm is the first commercial development of its kind in the state, as well as the first coastal and urban wind farm in the nation.
Between ACUA’s wind and solar projects onsite, a significant amount of completely renewable energy is produced each day. The really exciting part? You can get an up close and personal view of the wind turbines (each measuring more than 380 feet from the ground to the tip of the blade—wow!), see 500 kilowatts worth of solar arrays, and learn just how wastewater is treated with a laboratory tour and demonstration.
Your tour of the Wastewater Treatment Facility will be geared to the age level of your group and will last about one hour. There is no need to make a reservation, but please be on time!
The wind farm and the ACUA’s Wastewater Treatment Facility are located at 1801 Absecon Blvd. (Route 30) in Atlantic City.
At the facility, drive through the gate (use the call box on the left should the gate be closed) and follow the access road. Park under the solar canopy and look for signs for visitor's entrance (near the flagpole).
If your group cannot make the 12:00 p.m. tour on a Monday or Friday, feel free to schedule a tour with us by calling (609) 272-6950.
