ST. LUCIE COUNTY — The Florida Department of Environmental Protection approved Geoplasma’s efforts to zap trash in St. Lucie County. The project would be the first of its scale in the nation.
The state department approved permits Thursday and mandated that Geoplasma meet promised standards for emissions, which were more strict than state standards.
The permits clear one of the final impediments before Geoplasma can start building a $120 million facility designed to eat more than 600 tons of trash while spitting out energy and other useful by-products.
