SUSTAINABLE JERSEY™ Workshop at ACUA Wednesday, May 19

The Sustainable Jersey™ program will offer a training on Wednesday, May 19 from 7-8:30 pm at the ACUA's Recycling Center located at 6700 Delilah Road in Egg Harbor Township.  Training will include information on the  WalMart's 2010 Sustainable Jersey™ Small Grants Program.  Registration is free and open to all.

Come learn about what’s new for 2010 in the Sustainable Jersey™ program.  Whether your municipality is already certified, is registered with the program, or is just getting started on the path to sustainability, the Sustainable Jersey program offers tools and resources that will help you to achieve your goals.

In addition to a second "Silver" level of certification,  the training will cover new actions that have been added for 2010.  You’ll also have the opportunity to hear from a representative from one of the Sustainable Jersey certified communities about their challenges and successes.

This training will also include information funding to local governments for sustainability projects.  WalMart's 2010 Sustainable Jersey™ Small Grants Program  will award ten (10) $10,000 grants, four (4) $25,000 and twenty (20) $1,000 grants to local governments.

In an effort to promote sustainability, education, and public/private partnerships, Walmart Stores Inc. and the New Jersey League of Municipalities' Education Foundation, and the NJLM Mayors' Committee for a Green Future (MCGF) established the Sustainable Jersey™ Small Grants Program.  This is the second year that Walmart has funded the grants program, bringing their total contribution over two years to $420,000.

The grants are intended to support New Jersey municipalities participating in the Sustainable Jersey Certification Program to institute greening and sustainability initiatives within their communities and better the quality of life for their residents.  Grants will be awarded to both certified and registered communities to fund worthy projects.  Municipalities seeking to be eligible for these grants should be registered with the Sustainable Jersey program before the application deadline.

To apply for a grant, each municipality must submit a proposal describing its local sustainability initiative and how it will relate to the Sustainable Jersey actions.  The application details how to apply for each grant category.  and other incentives for participating communities.

Find out more and learn about new additions to the Sustainable Jersey™ website including the new "Mappler" application which  lets you search for other towns that are working on similar actions.

These workshops will be held in 3 locations around NJ, and will also include a webinar (May 18th).
