Residents are reminded that Food Drive stickers will be inserted into local papers beginning next week. For Press of Atlantic City readers, food drive stickers are scheduled to be inserted on Wednesday, December 2. For Current readers, food drive stickers will appear in this local publication the week on November 30. For most Current readers, this means look for your sticker mid-week.
Sponsored by the ACUA, the Holiday Food Drive gives residents an easy and convenient way to help the needy while helping the environment. All canned goods collected through the Holiday Food Drive will be distributed through the Community FoodBank of NJ, Southern Branch, which provides the donated food to more than 400 local charities for distribution to those less fortunate in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, and southern Burlington Counties.
To participate, just fill any bag, paper or plastic, with your donation and leave at the curb on your recycling day between December 7 and December 18.
Last year, residents answered the food bank’s call for assistance and donated a near-record total of 56,520 pounds of non-perishable food items.
Atlantic County residents not serviced through the ACUA curbside recycling program can participate by bringing their donations to the ACUA at 6700 Delilah Rd., or to the Community Food Bank, located at 6735 Black Horse Pike, Egg Harbor Township.
Items most needed are non-perishable foods, such as canned meats, canned soups, canned vegetables, canned stew and canned fruit. Please do not include perishable or frozen items, or food in glass jars.
