The Atlantic County Utilities Authority will be hosting a blood drive from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009at the Recycling Center Conference Room located at 6700 Delilah Road in Egg Harbor Township.
Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood, so the need for blood affects us all. Nine out of ten of us will need blood some time in our lives. And one out of every 10 hospital patients requires a transfusion.
ACUA will be working to help the America Red Cross Association honor their mission statement: To fulfill the needs of the American people for the safest, most reliable and cost-effective blood, plasma and tissue services through voluntary donations.
Most healthy people who weigh at least 110 pounds and who are 17 years of age or older are eligible to give blood. Federal regulations require that whole blood donors wait 56 days between donations.
Drink plenty of fluids prior to the drive and consider eating iron-rich foods such as red meat, fish, poultry, broccoli, beans, raisins and prunes.
A certificate for a free WaWa sandwich will be given to each participant while supplies last. Snacks and refreshments will also be provided for participants.
Please bring at least one form of identification.
