Since the Jersey-Atlantic wind farm came online in 2006, ACUA is no stranger to media attention. National media outlets, including Fox News, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times have profiled the ACUA’s renewable energy initiatives. But most everyone would agree that Wednesday, April 29 was a special occasion. Dan Rather, the host of "Dan Rather Reports" arrived via limousine to the Haneman Environmental Park for the sole purpose of interviewing ACUA Solid Waste Director Gary Conover for a story on greenhouse gas credits and landfill gas offsets. Five crew members from the show arrived just ahead of Dan, and made sure everything went smoothly. Methane, the gas produced when waste decomposes in a landfill, is one of the most potent greenhouse gases. Capturing it and turning into energy helps the ACUA reduce its carbon footprint. The entire ACUA Environmental Park is powered by this energy. By all accounts, Dan was gracious and very down to earth, and more than happy to pose for a few pictures. The segment of "Dan Rather Reports" featuring the ACUA is expected to be aired in three weeks.
