Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

Cleaner. Cheaper. Better. That’s why we’re making the switch to compressed natural gas (CNG).

In October 2010, we opened the first compressed natural gas station in South Jersey built and operated by Clean Energy Fuels. As a member of the NJ Clean Cities Coalition, we were awarded $2 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to offset the cost of constructing the fueling station and purchasing new CNG vehicles.

Currently, more than 50% of our entire fleet and 87% of our collection vehicles run on CNG. We are in the process of converting our entire fleet from biodiesel to CNG.

Environmental and Financial Impact:

Since making the switch to CNG, ACUA and its ratepayers have received more than $3.1 million in benefits from fuel cost savings, sales revenues and tax credits combined. More than 4,800 metric tons of CO2e has been prevented from entering the atmosphere.

Current Price:

$2.14 per gallon
