Volunteer Stream Monitoring Workshop at Gravelly Run Stream

Join Watershed Ambassador Ashley Aversa for this hands-on workshop where you'll learn how to assess the health of our local waterways. Suitable for adults and kids 16 years and older. 

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Training
Noon - Lunch
1:15 to 3 p.m.
- Stream Assessment and Identification
Water quality is determined not only by how it looks but who lives in it! Macro-invertebrates (aquatic insects) are indicators of water quality and tell us the current health of our rivers and streams. 

Volunteers Will:

  • Visually and Biologically Assess Stream Health according to DEP protocol and standards
  • Identify Macro-invertebrates
  • Use sapling equipment 
  • Get hands-on experience assessing the health of local waterways!

You Will Need:

  • Hip Waders or Knee-High, Waterproof Boots (without waders, you will not be able to enter stream, you may work stream-side)
  • Packed Lunch
